  1. Fox-tot!, a new opera for children aged 12 to 24 months, comes to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate, from Tuesday 27 August to Sunday 1 September, fresh from its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In Royal & Derngate’s first collaboration with Scottish Opera, composer Lliam Paterson, who created the internationally acclaimed opera for babies BambinO,has joined forces with director Roxana Haines and designers Giuseppe Belli and Emma Belli to create a show that is full of imagination – a magical journey of discovery for those taking their first small steps into the big wide world.

In this brand new show a little fox is sent on an adventure to explore the world and learn to see through the eyes of other creatures. Stretched out in the sun as a cat, soaring in the sky as a butterfly... it’s fun to be someone else. But, as Mother Vixen guides her cub’s journey from the shadows, will the little one discover what it takes to become an excellent fox?

Set in a woodland world where anything can happen, and performed by two singers, a cellist and a percussionist, this engaging mix of music and puppetry provides an interactive experience for young children and their adults to enjoy together.

Presented as part of the Made in Northampton season, Fox-tot! can be seen in Royal & Derngate’s Underground from Tuesday 27 August to Sunday 1 September, with performances at 2pm on Tuesday and 11am and 2pm from Wednesday to Sunday. Tickets are £10* for adults, £6 for a child and £15 for an adult and child, and can be booked by calling Box Office on 01604 624811 or online at www.royalandderngate.co.uk.

This project is part of a Royal & Derngate-led consortium inspiring and supporting the creation of new musicals and operas. The Made in Northampton season is sponsored locally by Michael Jones Jewellers.
